What is MPP?

The Machine Payments Protocol: Stripe and Tempo’s HTTP 402 standard for agents, designed to be rail-agnostic.

MPP, announced with Tempo mainnet on 18 March 2026, is an open protocol for agents to pay APIs and services without a checkout UI. Stripe documents it as working with Shared Payment Tokens (cards and other methods) and with stablecoins, including on Tempo.

It is a complement and a competitor to x402. zFinia covers both. We do not collapse them into one brand name.
